INTERNATIONAL NEW YORK TIMES: Tackling Dirty Fuels Gains Urgency

IMG_2283More than half of India’s population relies on biomass for cooking, leading to alarmingly high levels of indoor air pollution. According to the Global Burden of Disease study in 2013, pollution within the walls of the home is the second-biggest risk factor for death in India.

I accompanied Beth Gardiner to Mustafabad near Lucknow to meet families that are suffering from the smoke caused by cooking with bio-fuels. You can read Beth’s story in the online edition the International New York Times and see my accompanying photos in the print edition here.
