Life after the War

I moved to New York in Fall 2011 with a foot in a cast and an empty house to furnish. I ended up buying a lot of furniture from Nathan and Amber, who were moving out of their university housing apartment as I moved in. Along the way, we got talking about Nathan’s deployment in Iraq as part of Marine Corps, and how Amber coped with the anxiety and uncertainty of him being in the war zone. Nathan returned from his second deployment in 2007, and enrolled in a community college in Oregon, and then at Columbia. He is running for Congress in 2014. After many years of suffering from the anxiety of having Nathan out in the war and then the readjustment process of his coming home, Amber has resumed her studies. She is now studying psychology at the University of Oregon. She plans to work for the Veterans Administrations hospital (VA) as a counselor.

This photo shoot follows the high school sweethearts around Riverside Park, New York.
